Testimonials
As a fortunate recipient of The Shohola Scholarship Fund, my son’s life has been impacted in so many ways. He came home a much more confident swimmer, a more patient friend and much more responsible for his personal space. He learned so much self confidence and how to problem solve as a group. Still now, Months after returning home, he’s excited to share games he learned at camp and tell funny stories of his bunk mates and counselors. This scholarship was a blessing for him, and we are grateful every day.
I am deeply grateful to the Camp Shohola Scholarship Fund for the support provided during one of the most challenging times in our lives. As a single mom undergoing cancer treatment, it brought me peace of mind knowing that my sons were surrounded by friendship, love, and the beauty of nature at Camp Shohola. The experiences they shared there enriched their minds and spirits in ways that will resonate with us forever.
Thank you for being there for us, for the support, and for the lifelong memories.
I am a working single mother to now 15-year-old twins. For the last six summers, my son has attended Camp Shohola. The first year he went, the first letter he sent read: “Come get me, I beg of you.” And that was all it said. Although my heart ached, I refused. Fast-forward six years, and he asked me if I remembered my promise to him when he was nine. I did not, and he proceeded to refresh my memory. He said I told him when he turned 15, I promised to allow him to stay at Camp Shohola for the entire summer season. It was now time for me to deliver on that promise.
Over the years, I have watched my son become a confident, independent young man who cares deeply for his community and others, in huge part because of his time at Camp Shohola. He has also developed fast friendships and met campers from all over the world who have helped to broaden his perspective and appreciation for diverse cultures.
The scholarship fund made my son’s experience at Shohola possible. Without it, he would not have been able to attend. When I can, I plan to contribute to the scholarship fund so that other boys and young men have the opportunity my son had to grow, test his independence, and discover new skills and talents.

Help make a Shohola camper’s dream a reality

Frank “Kit” Barger, former director of Camp Shohola, founded the Alumni Association in 2003 after he had retired, and turned the camp director role over to his son Duncan. His goal in starting this nonprofit, was to share the unique Shohola experience with those that would not otherwise have access to it.
One of Camp Shohola’s defining characteristics is our diversity of both counselors and campers. While we come from all over the world, bringing our varied cultures and ideas with us, while at camp we bond as one tribe. Our differences make us stronger in many ways, and we believe that the Shohola Alumni Association’s mission fosters a level of socioeconomic diversity that would otherwise not be represented at camp. We’re proud of our work to continue making the Shohola family a richer, more accepting community.
Each year, we receive dozens of applications from parents who want to give their boys a summer of growth, learning, and fun-filled fun, but are unable to do so without financial help. We rely on the generosity of those who’ve been positively affected by Camp Shohola; former campers and counselors, parents, and other friends.
Please consider giving today. Any amount can make a big difference!
